The Middle Atlantic region in the United States is situated between New England and the South and consists of the areas of Delaware, New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington D.C. This region has been pivotal in promoting the development and advancement of America and has played an important role in the progression of its culture, trade and commerce and industries. This region has hosted the majority of the state capitals since the American Revolution including Washington D.C, Americas current federal capital. This region can even be considered one of the most affluent regions of the Usa since it has 43 out from the 100 highest income counties of the United States.
Professional sports play a very significant role in this area. Most of these areas have their own professional sports teams that participate in Major League Baseball, National Football League, National Hockey League, Major League Soccer National Basketball League championships. Together with professional sports this region is also big within the collegiate sports front with a number of colleges and universities taking part in the NCAA Division I,II and III games.
The Middle Atlantic Corporation was founded in 1912 and it is an athletic conference that takes part within the NCAA Division III. This corporation is split into 3 conferences, namely, the Freedom Conference, the Commonwealth Conference and also the Middle Atlantic Conference. The sixteen members that form this corporation are based out of the Middle Atlantic States. This association has been furthering college sports in the Usa since its inception in 1912 with 13 members. This association carried on growing in its strength housing over fifty teams at one time. However, after the formation of the NVAA Division I,II and III in 1974, the league decreased its size.
The member team participate in 11 mens and 11 womens sports categories that include basketball, baseball, hockey, indoor and outdoor track and field, cross country, football, golf, lacrosse, swimming and tennis. They’ve already included softball, field hockey and volleyball in the womens categories.
